THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION

The spread of the COVID-19 pandemic today leads to an increase in the formation of psychological problems in modern people, which often leads to new addictions. As an example we can take alcohol consumption. The aim of the study is to analyze the effect of COVID-19 on alcohol consumption. The study was conducted in January 2022. An electronic search in SCOPUS was conducted using a combination of keywords related to alcohol consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our search was limited to articles published in peer-reviewed journals from January 2020 to January 2021. No restrictions were applied to research projects eligible for inclusion. Initially, a total of 625 studies on this topic were identified in the Scopus electronic database. Subsequently, we removed 594 studies that did not meet the inclusion criteria or were duplicates. A total of 31 full-text articles were evaluated for compliance with the requirements. In addition, a search was conducted for the literature included in the literature list of these studies in order to obtain and add more relevant literature. Of the 1,189 articles from the list of references, 1,179 were removed after checking the titles and annotations, as well as a full-text review. As a result, a total of 30 articles meeting the selection criteria were included in this review. In response to the rapidly growing number of publications, this systematic review analyzed the latest literature published before January 2021 at <url>. Great importance in solving many issues of pandemics, including the problem of alcohol abuse and other mental disorders associated with COVID-19, is attached to the development of telemedicine technologies with video consultations of patients, the possibility of remote counseling, a system of electronic contacts and the revision of the ratio of outpatient and inpatient types of medical care. The results of this review can be used by the professionals dealing with the problem.
