Human emotions have always been an important goal for research, as well as paradoxes associated with emotions. For example, why we like sad movies and music, despite the fact that in real life we try to avoid emotions such as sadness. This topic has been well studied by other researchers, so the purpose of this review article is to summarize the findings of the researchers in one article for the convenience of finding the necessary information. A bibliometric analysis methodology was used. The Scopus database was used to research articles for the study period from 2000 to 2017. The necessary keywords and the final search strategy were selected. Titles and abstracts of records obtained were screened. 587 relevant articles were found. Of these, 85 articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. This review article uses 30 carefully studied articles. The thematic synthesis of the articles resulted in the integration framework of major reasons why people like sad music and movies that were identified in this article. The main reasons are mood regulation, lack of connection with reality, the paradox of negative emotions, and the beauty of human perseverance. Many articles mention the reasons why we enjoy sad music and movies, but a lack of review articles covering all the reasons for this topic has been revealed. The results of this subject field review can be used by people interested in the field of psychology.
