Движения Black Lives Matter и актуализация вопроса об этнических чистках перед Днем независимости Канады 2021 года в масс-медиа в очередной раз подняли вопрос о последствиях культурного колониализма, который привел к развитию работорговли и истреблению коренных народов Америки. События прошлого, причиной которых стала экспансия Европы по всему миру, продолжают влиять на современное общество. Это определяет возникновение новых проектов ведущих западных СМИ и попытки пересмотра исторического наследия с точки зрения «новой этики». Многие журналисты пытаются найти взаимосвязь между происходящими событиями и последствиями колониализма ведущих европейских государств и США.
