Synthesis and structure of lanthanum oxalate crystal hydrate La-2(C2O4)(3) center dot 9.2H(2)O

Results of the synthesis and X-ray structure determination for La-2(C2O4)(3) . 9.2H(2)O are reported. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P2(1)/a, a = 10.460(2) Angstrom, b = 9.590(2) Angstrom, c = 11.358(2) Angstrom, beta = 114.36(03)degrees, V = 1308(1) Angstrom (3), Z = 2, rho (calc) = 2.23 g/cm(3). In the layered structure, lanthanum atoms are linked by acetato bridges. The coordination sphere of the La atom consists of six oxygen atoms from three oxalato groups and three oxygen atoms of water molecules. The layers lie parallel to the xz plane. Four water molecules whose oxygen atoms do not coordinate metal atoms are disordered and arranged between the layers.
