Public Opinion in Mass Society: Chances to Stir up "Silent Majority"

This article dispels some of the most popular myths about the "knowledge society" and the delusions they create regarding intellectuals and intellectual activities. The analysis makes use of both research (M. McLuhan, M. Foucault, U. Eco, R. Collins) and literary (M. Bradbury) sources. Ideally, the reader should be tempted to arrive at a rather positive conclusion as regards the intrinsic ambivalence of knowledge and its live environment traditionally populated by intellectuals in our society.
