Silica based composite micro-lattice structures for space craft applications

The earth’s crust is rich in silica and silica is one of the most commercially used compounds which is available as alkoxysilane compounds such as tetrathy-loorthosilicate, sodium silicate etc. This paper reports the synthesis and characterization of silica and nanosilica from an environment friendly method which is safer, cheaper and addresses the issue of environmental pollution as well. It also investigates the effect of process parameters on the microstructural and compositional properties of silica using advance characterization techniques SEM, XRD and EDS and explores the possibility to develop customized architectured silica based composite microstructures to be used for spacecraft applications. © 2021, Univelt Inc.
