The anti-French resistance in Algeria before and during World War i

This work examines the situation in the French colony of Algeria before and during the World War I. Despite the fact that in the first decade of the XX century the position of France as a colonial Empire was strong, in Algeria secretly brewing crisis, undermining the stability of the colonial rule of the metropolis. The basis for this study is the diplomatic documents from the Archive of foreign policy of the Russian Empire, these materials are published for the first time and testify to the facts of the various manifestations of the resistance of the indigenous population of Algeria foreign enslavement. The article noted the important role of Muslim religious orders in the struggle against foreign expansion. Special attention is paid to contradictions between official policy towards the colonies and the French community in Algeria. The participation of Algerians in the World War I have deepened the socio-political and economic contradictions in the colony and contributed to the emergence of the national liberation movement. © 2018 Rossiiskaya Akademiya Nauk, Institut Istorii (Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of General Hist.
