TEACHING LATIN AMERICAN CIVILIZATION THROUGH ANTHROPONOMASTICS

This paper offers an interdisciplinary perspective of teaching civilization of the Latin American world through personal names. Based on the Pantheon project developed at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, we have selected 40 famous people from the countries of the Pacific Alliance and analyzed the extracted data by applying a set of criteria such as gender, profession and name structure. The analysis allowed to reveal the major traits of Latin American culture codes. The research outcomes were used as the basis for the development of a course of Latin American civilization.
