The article talks about the development of tests to control students' knowledge in the aspect of professionally oriented communication for the humanities. The creation of unit tests for all training profiles is considered an important component of Russian-as-foreign testing system (TORFL) improving. Nowadays, the number of professional training tests is much less than general tests. Besides, the unit tests currently using in universities of Russia are prepare for the first certification level (B1) and the second certification level (B2). There are no tests for a basic level. At the RUDN University, "intermediate tests" of the basic level were created at the faculty of Russian to define competencies in the field of professional communication language. In particular test materials for journalists, philologists, linguists and political scientists were developed and tested at the faculty of Russian. These tests include vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening proficiency. For making tests is used the MOODLE platform which represents the digital educational environment of the university. Test materials were placed in three categories: tests for journalists, philologists and linguists, political scientists. The article includes a methodological justification for creating tests of this field and presents the results of testing students and an analysis of the students' work with test materials. According to it is possible to make conclusions about the necessary adjustment of the testing methodology.
