The acid properties of the surface of catalysts containing ultradisperse powders of iron group metals were determined by spectroscopically studying adsorption of pyridine. The activity of plasma-chemically synthesized oxide-containing catalysts in oxidation of CO is shown to vary in parallel with their acidity, probably, because of an increase in the amount of oxygen adsorbed on acid sites. The activity of these systems in reduction of nitrogen oxides decreases with the number of acid sites because of a decrease in the electron-donor properties of the surface.
