Internal waves are very often observed in shelf zones of many seas including the Mediterranean and Black seas. For practice, it is necessary to know the statistical characteristics of the internal wave field, in particular, the return period and cumulative frequency. Such analysis has been performed earlier for internal wave recordings in some areas of the World Ocean, namely the Atlantic and the north-west shelf of Australia. It was found that the exceedance probability of large-Amplitude internal waves can be described by the Poisson curve which is one of the typical curves of extreme statistics. Similar analysis is done in the presented paper for the internal waves in the Levant Sea near the Egyptian Coast. The paper compares the results obtained for other ocean areas.
