This article has for it's object to cover the perception by Indians of their philosophy and representation of history of Indian Philosophy and the first steps on the way of Indian philosophy reception in the West European intellectual space, which took place at the turn of the 19th century. One of the most important figure in this process was Schopenhauer, which not only set a high value on Indian wisdom and held India for the foremother of mankind, but also drew parallels and comparisons between his own philosophical views and main principles of Vedas' tradition (at least in his interpretation).
