EFFECTIVENESS-EMOTIVENESS MODEL OF SCHOOL STUDENTS' CAPACITY LEVELS

The paper is aimed to describe such categories as “giftedness”, “talent” and “genius” as sublevels presenting the highest level of the student's potential. The authors study the interpretations of the notion “giftedness” in its broad meaning (considered as gift, advanced creative resource). Research Methods. The authors characterize a range of educational measures making it possible to detect the current level of the student's potential. The teacher's and school psychologist's functional duties are reviewed, along with the criteria underlying the proposed model: academic effectiveness (results within the curriculum) and emotional condition (pleasure or pain caused by educational environment). Research Results. The research shows that intense mental activity does not make a gifted child suffer or make significant efforts. In the key section of the paper the giftedness is regarded in a narrow meaning, in conformity with the authors' model: as a sublevel due to which a student can show positive results in a school discipline and enjoy it because of his/her teacher's professional mastership. Discussion. The authors came to the conclusion that in the modern society having ability (a level of the student's potential below giftedness - acceptable (from satisfactory to exceptional) results within the curriculum with predominance of negative emotions or lack of positive ones) is enough for people who finished school or graduated from university. What matters for the state is the results of workers' activity, a motivation type is of no particular importance. Nevertheless, the authors suppose that this situation may change in the future. We may have a new social order, which enables every man and woman to satisfy his/her physiological, social and spiritual needs without making any contribution to labor life. However, it is clear that the economic sector needs working people - those who produce goods and services. Conclusion. If a person does not have to work, the only labor motivation, except threats, is devotion to a certain pursuit. Therefore, it is probable that future world will need gifted people, not just able ones.
