A one-dimensional mathematical model of a river mouth bar

Theoretical principles of a one-dimensional model describing the formation of a mouth bar by river flow are presented. The model incorporates the distribution of the free surface slope along the river mouth zone, the flow in the river channel and in the offshore zone, the rate of mouth bed formation, the rates of scouring of the mouth hollow, and the growth of the bar ridge. A numerical solution of the suggested system is used to analyze the evolution of the longitudinal profile of the bed based on the data on the upper boundary of the mouth zone and to determine the bar size and its displacement toward the sea as a function of the river hydrological conditions. © 1999 MAHK "Hayka/Interperiodica".
