Botkin's cardiac syndrome in calculous cholecystitis (Russian)

Results of the investigation of 253 patients operated on for exacerbation of chronic calculous cholecystitis are presented. In the pathogenesis of Botkin's cardiac syndrome, hypopotassemia, an increased level of amylase in the blood, disorders of carbohydrate metabolism, hypotension of the bile ducts and a reflex toxic effect causing hypotension of the greater and lesser circulation with overloading of the left and right sides of the heart are of great significance. Disorders of the heart in calculous cholecystitis are of a dystrophic nature and are caused by biological disorders, but they are not associated with ischemic disease of the heart. They can be also caused by concomitant pancreatitis.
