Proton therapy of skull base chordoma

Skull base chordomas are rare tumors. They are located nearby to the brain’s most critical structures. This represents a major challenge in the treatment of these tumors. Despite advances in surgery, radical resection is often not possible, thus necessitating the use of radiation therapy. Proton therapy is the most effective and precise method of radiation therapy for this localization of chordomas. This article presents our own experience with intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT) of a fixed pencil beamline in the treatment of a patient with a skull base chordoma. © 2025, Herzen. J. Oncol.
