Optimal Allocation of Multiple Shunt Capacitors and Distributed Generators Using Harris Hawks Optimization to Regulate The Voltage Profiles

Installing shunt capacitors (SCs) and distributed generators (DGs) represents one of the improvements used in the radial distribution network to regulate the voltage profiles of all buses. In this work, Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO) is the optimization technique suggested to determine the optimal sizing of distribution generators (DGs) and shunt capacitors (SCs) on the radial distribution system. The voltage stability index (VSI) is an indicator that refers to the optimal location of multiple distribution generators (DGs) and multiple shunt capacitors (SCs). The main goal of selecting the optimal size (using HHO) and optimal placement (using VSI) is to reduce the voltage deviation (VD) of the whole system. The proposed approaches (HHO and VSI) were applied to the IEEE 33-bus radial distribution system. Three scenarios have been applied to prove the efficiency and superiority of the proposed approaches (HHO and VSI). The optimal results of HHO will be compared with another recent optimization algorithm. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.
