Transurethral injection Rezum water vapor therapy of benign prostatic hyperplasia (literature review)

Actually, there is a wide range of medicinal and surgical methods to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) which have their own limitations and disadvantages (including sexual dysfunction). Water vapor thermal therapy (WVTT) is a novel minimally invasive surgical method to manage BPH with a low recurrence rate and maintenance of sexual function. According to global literature review, WVTT may be a preferred option for a patient with moderate or severe symptoms of the disease and prostate volume of 30–80 cm3 (or more), regardless of age. Thus, according to advanced literature review and numerous authors' opinion, WVTT is considered as a safe method (even as the first line technique for certain categories of BPH patients). Silodosin, an alpha-adrenoblocker, may be a drug of choice to manage pre-and postoperative WVTT patients. © 2025, Meditsina-Inform LLC. All rights reserved.
