Vietnam's agriculture has developed mainly through increase in area, crops, labor, inputs and exploitation of natural resources. Due to limited resources and the significant young labor force movement wave from rural to urban areas, agriculture has begun to innovate, focusing on promote the role of science and technology. The study used total factor productivity (TFP) measurement to demonstrate the crucial role of science and technology in raising productivity of some major agricultural products. However, low TFP growth combined with poor input growth results in relatively low agricultural growth in Vietnam. To promote the role of science and technology in agriculture, it is necessary to invest in the development of the science and technology system, facilitate institutional support and strengthen international cooperation in science and technology in the agricultural sector.
