Nowadays, audiovisual products represent an inexhaustible source of reference, as is demonstrated by their pedagogical exploitation due to their wide range of activities, especially in the field of foreign language teaching (L2). In this respect, this didactic work deals with audiovisual translation (AVT) using subtitling to demonstrate its effectiveness as a pedagogical method in the acquisition of phra-seological units, specifically Russian proverbs. To this end, an investigation is carried out based on a current Russian series with Russian subtitles, with the aim of improving phraseological acquisition by students of Russian as a foreign language (RKI) through the ability to identify and understand specific grammatical structures such as phraseological units. The interest of this research focuses on the use of active subtitles as a useful tool for the development of language skills during the learning process of these units. In the case in point, colloquial sayings (proverbs and proverbial phrases) from the Russian series Project Anna Niko-laevna have been selected to promote audiovisual content in the RKI classroom. To carry out the research objective, the study involved the voluntary participation of 40 Spanish-speaking students, divided into two groups (translators and methodologists), and was divided into two phases. A test-type survey was used as a data collection instrument to work individually with 15 selected proverbs. Finally, the study shows the effectiveness of TAV and active subtitling as a pedagogical method for the acquisition of UF, especially proverbs. © Transfer 2024.
