3D Printing Technology: A Sustainable Strategy Toward a Contemporary Earthen Building Design

Nowadays, 3D printing technology considered one of the fastest-growing technologies in the world presently, its advantages make it one of the most promising technologies in the construction sector with many advantages compared to the traditional construction methods. The technology of 3D printing could be very much applied to the construction of contemporary vernacular buildings. This paper focuses on the exploring of the 3D printing construction technology-which using the earth as the main construction material, but more broadly to engage with a vernacular approach through digital technology as a sustainable strategy of building construction. Hence, the methodology is based on a theoretical approach supported mainly by the outcomes of the last researches review and case study analysis. The integration of earthen materials with 3D printing technology will be effective for cost reduction, energy efficiency, climatic adaptive design, less waste, reduce time, high levels of accuracy and the ability to make informed decisions, 3D printing robots advantages make this technology solutions in achieving the goals for a sustainable, environmental and contemporary building. © 2022 American Institute of Physics Inc..
