ETHICAL IMPLICATIONSOF DEEPFAKE TECH-NOLOGY IN THE FILMINDUSTRY

This article explores the ethical implications of deepfake technology in the film industry, focusing on concerns for actors and performers, audience trust and misinformation, artistic integrity and creative control, societal impact, and notable examples. It advocates for a balanced approach that emphasizes responsible use and ethical considerations, while calling for further research, dialogue, and regulation in this area. A study conducted in 2023 revealed that humans can only detect deepfake speech accurately 73% of the time, underscoring the urgent need for more advanced detection systems (1). Therefore, deepfake technology, a subset of artificial intelligence, has emerged as a powerful tool in the film industry, allowing for the manipulation of digital media to create hyper-realistic and convincing depictions of people and events. While this technology offers new creative possibilities, it also raises significant ethical concerns.
