The article describes general trends in East Asian migration and analyzes the special characteristics and main directions of migration in the region. As the economies of the East Asian countries grow, alongside the growth of political influence and active engagement in international processes, the issues of migration in the region gain certain relevance and attention. The research is heavily based on the analysis of official migration statistics and includes description of migration stock growth in East Asia, the main destinations of East Asian migrants and factors influencing migration processes in the region. The authors consider such types of migration as labor migration, student mobility, repatriation and forced migration. As for the main migration factors, the article mentions such aspects as demographic changes and economic development, socio-cultural interaction, as well as political conjuncture. The article focuses on intra- regional migration in East Asia as one of the important types of migration for the region. The authors concentrate on migration flows from China, Japan and South Korea as the largest countries in the region. The article also pays attention to the issue of North Korean migrants as a unique case in East Asian migration processes.
