CONSTRUCTION OF LATTICE STRUCTURES FOR BONE IMPLANTS ON EXAMPLE OF MANDIBLE MODEL

The modelling of the individual bone implants is based on computer 3D models, reformed from DICOM files of computed tomography (CT). In this algorithm, the resulting three-dimensional geometry contains a lot of irregular, non-manifold patterns. Such structure is not suitable for volumetric prototyping and requires a deep correction. Furthermore, to recreate the organotypic structure of bone implants, it is necessary to model its internal space, resembling the structure of native cortical and cancellous bone with biomechanical parameters of the replaced skeletal region. In this work, we propose a new bioengineering approach in the design and manufacture of bone implants (BI), namely: reformation of 3D bone model with bone defect from CT, virtual modelling of BI, topology optimization and the construction of lattice structures in BI, structural finite element analysis, combined two- extruder 3D printing of BI of human lower jaw from biocompatible plastic by FDM method, and filling the interior areas of BI by hydroxyapatite paste, with its possible saturation by growth factor and/or osteogenic bone cells. The9developed approach, in our opinion, will allow not only to produce BI with anatomically correct form, but also to form their correct structures for optimization their strength properties and to provide them with osteogenic potency to ensure full regeneration of replaced bone defects.
