The paper deals with the technology of contactless payments on mobile devices. Firstly, the authors make a brief overview of the history of its market entrance and further development and list the largest providers of this service. What is more, much attention is given to the history of this technology of promotion in the Russian market. Secondly, the article gives an analysis of consumer attitudes. The respondents represent different age groups, but the greatest attention is paid to younger respondents who are more likely to use technical innovations. The results of the study revealed that many consumers are afraid to use the service due to their doubt about the safety of their bank accounts or they don't know how to use it. As a consequence, the article provides the reader with some information on the security of transactions via contactless payments.
