The article contains basic information on the clinical and pharmacological properties of dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers (CCBs). The advantage of CCBs is their metabolic neutrality (no effect on carbohydrate, fat, protein, purine metabolism). Dihydropyridines could be successfully combined with all major groups of antihypertensive drugs. Special attention is paid to recently released fixed combination of dihydropyridines with longer-acting ACE inhibitors (e.g., amlodipine + perindopril), which has a lot of benefits.
