The paper presents the data obtained from a study of proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines in children with malaria caused by P.vivax and P.falciparum. The findings suggest that in vivax malaria, the adequate mechanisms of immunological responsiveness develop with a preponderance of a Thl-type immune response, which promote the earliest elimination of infected erythrocytes and causative agents from the body. In tropic malaria, cy-tokine profile imbalance is of important pathogenetic value in the development of the severe and recurrent forms of the disease since the formation of an inadequate immune response to parasitic antigens favors the development of poor outcomes.
