Йодный дефицит - медико-социальная проблема Российской Федерации

The problem Iodine deficiency conditions is a great medical and social prob-lem. The iodine deficiency is registered on one third of administrative territo-ries of the Russian Federation. 98 million persons are in group of risk of iodine deficiency diseases. Deficiency of iodine causes development of intellectual backwardness (cretinism) at children and decrease in a mental potential of all population living in a zone of iodine insufficiency. On an example of the dif-ferent countries it is shown, that the average indexes of intelligence expressed in terms of IQ (intelligence quotient) in regions with the expressed iodine defi-ciency on 15-20 % more low in comparison with regions with adequate main-tenance with iodine. Medical, social and economic value of iodine deficiency consists in essential loss of intellectual, educational and professional potential of all nation.
