The systemic typological approach to the intonation research

The article is devoted to the concept of works done by the scholars at the laboratory of experimental phonetics at the philological department of the Peoples Friendship University. The intonation is analyzed as an autonomous semiotical level of the language. The author focuses his attention on the following types of intonation meanings: 1) significative; 2) syntagmatic; 3) paradigmatic. The complex character of intonation phenomenon in the languages of different morphological types (Russian, Chinese, Kiswahili, Yoruba, English) is demonstrated and proved.
