Background. Nowadays people widely use IoT as a technology which are capable of combining a wide range of devices. Thus, this connectivity can successfully be used to provide the issue of security. In the past, password protection was enough, but technology has been developing and now it isn't very reliable. Using biometrics can greatly improve the security of IoT, however no scoping reviews have been conducted on the topic. Purpose. This review is aimed at studying the application of biometrics in different fields of Internet of Things, including healthcare, personal security and transportation. What's more, the scoping review is dedicated to the problem of security in IoT regarding biometrics. Methods. We searched the Scopus database. Eligible studies were chosen published in English after 2019 that discuss biometric security measures in IoT devices. Titles and abstracts of obtained studies were screened. We extracted information on the field of IoT and applicable devices, current security challenges, the ways of solving them. These characteristics were then categorised and thematically grouped. Results. 100 studies were obtained during the search and 62 of them met our inclusion criteria. The majority of the studies took the form of articles (50) while 11 works were conference papers. The most common area of IoT use was authentication. The current work has shown the potential of applying biometrics in the security field. However, further studies need to focus more on specific applications rather than the general field. Conclusion. The results of this work indicate that biometrics is a viable way of securing IoT devices and can be widely used in various spheres if human life.
