The research aims to prove that food security is a global problem that affects all countries regardless of their development level. The differences between countries in terms of the level of food security depend on many factors, which include geopolitical, climatic, geographical, technological, and economic ones. In preparing the research, the authors applied general dialectical, economic, statistical, and other scientific methods of cognition, as well as content analysis of publications on the Internet. Food security is an integral element of economic security and, in general, the national security of any country. The COVID-19 pandemic, the sanctions regime imposed on Russia and Belarus (the largest suppliers of food to the world market), and military conflicts have led to an aggravation of the problem of providing the population with affordable food, a disruption in the logistics of food supplies, and a further imbalance in their consumption between developed and developing countries. The solution to the problem of ensuring food security is to strengthen international cooperation and intensify international trade in food products. International organizations, and, above all, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, are called upon to play an important role in solving the problem of ensuring food security. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
