THE PHENOMENON OF RADICAL ECOACTIVISM: BENEFITS AND HARMS. A SUBJECT FIELD REVIEW

The growth in the number of environmental problems leads to increasing numbers of organizations, groups, and environmental activists who are fighting, in one way or another, to rid the planet Earth of these problems. Due to many factors, eco-activism has moved to the stage of its radical version. Especially, as scientists have noticed, this trend can be traced in the 21st century. Radical eco-activism like any eco-activism pursues its original goal - the protection of the environment, but the categorical nature of the methods used by this category of activists makes scientists not only think about their benefits and harms. In response to a rapidly growing body of publications, this subject field review aimed to summarize the available literature on the benefits and harms of radical eco-activism in the 21st century. This research work explores the conclusions of the authors-specialists who understand this topic about the impact of the actions of radical eco-activists. The search for material to write this review was carried out in the Scopus electronic database among articles written in the period from September 2001 to March 2021. A total of 547 Articles were identified, 30 articles were selected based on the special criteria. This work highlights the impact (positive and negative) that radical eco-activism has on the environment, the public, politics, etc. To fully understand whether radical eco-activism is harmful or beneficial in the 21st century, it would be a welcome addition to the rather limited body of literature on the impact of radical eco-activism in recent years. The review under consideration is up to date and can be used as a source of information by the researchers and those who are interested in the problem of eco-activism of different types.
