WHERE DOES THE MOTHERLAND BEGIN?

Today young people are less and less interested in the culture and history of their native regions and cities. Despite the courses, taught at school and universities, because of this disinterest they experience difficulties in presenting their native place in multicultural communication. Young people do not often realize the importance of their identities in a conversation about their hometown or region. The main goals of the research are to contribute to a reflection on the importance of the history and culture of native cities and regions, to understand the reasons for the disinterest in one's own culture and finally, to find ways to solve this problem. The survey among young people aged between 17 to 25 showed difficulties that the respondents face in an international dialogue, the main reasons for a lack of interest in its culture and the history of their hometown and general gaps in the knowledge of the survey participants. They are very lacking in knowledge of history, political and geographical terms and important dates. But the main problem remains a complete lack of interest in talking about their hometown and indifference to learning in this area. It shows that the traditional teaching methods that exist today are not effective enough. To arouse the interest of his Homeland it is necessary to develop new ways to improve the knowledge of young people It is necessary not only to discuss this topic more actively with students during studies, but it is also indispensable to carry out projects to develop knowledge of one's Homeland. Contemporary technologies must be applied to interdisciplinary interactive projects. To increase the interest of students of the Institute of Foreign Languages of the Russian Peoples' Friendship University, the project “My hometown - my source of inspiration” was organized there, within the framework of which students shared information about their native cities.
