Энергетический сектор, в свою очередь, представляет собой сложную и взаимосвязанную сеть компаний, прямо и/или косвенно участвующих в производстве и распределении энергии, необходимой для развития экономики, в частности, сфер производства и транспорта. Энергетическая политика Европейского Союза всегда была сферой, где общие правила Союза являются проблемой, поскольку энергетика напрямую связана с экономической конкурентоспособностью и энергетической независимостью граждан государств-членов. Сегодня тезис о нехватке энергоресурсов кажется устаревшим, а стратегический потенциал энергетических технологий постоянно сдвигает границы возможного и доступного. Именно современные технологические разработки для разведки и добычи становятся фактором, обеспечивающим энергетическую независимость.

Global energy consumption is constantly growing, and this trend is directly related to economic growth and the level of poverty. According to the experts of the European Commission, the relationship between growth and energy consumption is a key factor in determining energy policies directly affecting the energy sector. The energy sector, in turn, is a complex and interconnected network of companies directly and/or indirectly involved in the production and distribution of energy needed to power the economy and facilitate the means of production and transport. The energy policy of the European Union has always been an area where the general rules of the Union are a problem, since energy is directly related to the economic competitiveness and energy independence of the citizens of the member States. Today, the thesis about the lack of energy resources seems outdated, and the strategic potential of energy technologies is constantly shifting the boundaries of what is possible and available. It is modern technological developments for exploration and production that are becoming a factor that ensures energy independence.
