LAYERED DOUBLE HYDROXIDES AS NITRATE ADSORPTION AGENTS IN WASTEWATER TREATMENT: A SUBJECT FIELD REVIEW

In this systematic review there was evaluated studies related to layered double hydroxides (LDHs) as nitrate adsorption agents in water treatment applications. LDHs are used as ion sieves, catalysts and drug-delivery systems in different fields of science and medicine, also as “filters” for wastewater treatment. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) Statement was followed with performing a literature search using two databases: Web of Science and Science Direct. Studies including any LDH and its compositions for nitrate adsorption in water media, while assessing the application of LDH and the value of the methodology, e.g, nitrate-adsorption kinetic protocol. A total of 96 articles since the beginning of 2021 year were identified via databases and two met the inclusion criteria. Two studies carried out a set of experiments with LDHs compositions in removal nitrate-ions from aqua solution under different conditions. There was demonstrated the efficiency of LDH-composition after conducting appropriate investigations, meanwhile the further investigations are required.
