Literature is an important, integral part in the life of every person, especially in the period of childhood. This is the most important time of the first children's conversance with the different genres of literature. Interest in literature, including the horror genre, is manifesting during the period of childhood every child. This is due to the fact that the process of raising a child includes reading fairy tales. As we know, all suspenseful signs are included in the fairy tales and have got all characteristic features of the horror genre: positive and negative (mystical) characters. The relevance of the topic directly based on the interest to the horror genre among Russian readers. This article discusses a relatively new kind of discourse horror discourse. The main objective of thus article is to review the horror discourse and identify the characteristics of the suspense effect in children's suspenseful (action-packed) literature. The article examines the linguistic features of children's literature, defines the concept of the “horror” genre, reveals the characteristic features of the horror discourse and the linguistic means of implementing the categories of suspense in children's literature. For a more detailed description of the process of implementing horror in children's action-packed literature, some examples of the implementation of suspense categories are considered in the article: the effect of heighten tensions, the effect of hopelessness, the effect of loneliness, the effect of untoward surprise and the effect of enhancing psychological stress. It was found that in order to achieve the maximum effect of suspense in the literature of the horror genre, graphic, lexical, syntactic and stylistic means are used.
