Religious Marginality at the Beginning of the 20th Century: On the Example of the Vladivostok Theosophical Society

The article examines the history of origin and functioning of Vladivostok branch (1920-1922) of the Russian Theosophical Society. The prerequisites for the penetration of theosophical teaching into the Far East, its further spread in the region, and then in the emigrant community in China are considered. The links of the organization with the International Theosophical Society are shown. It is proved that in its ideological basis the Vladivostok section was an occult-mystical organization, the non-traditional religiosity of which was a reaction to the spiritual tendencies of the earl y 20th century. © 2021, Rossiiskaya Akademiya Nauk, Institut Istorii (Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of General Hist).
