Gas permeability of anodized alumina membranes with a palladium-ruthenium alloy layer

Compositions with a palladium-ruthenium alloy layer 0.2 μm thick on thermostable and chemically stable membranes made from polycrystalline γ-alumina covered with a tantalum layer permeable only to hydrogen are obtained. The permeability of hydrogen, nitrogen, argon, and helium through the initial amorphous and polycrystalline membranes and also through those covered with layers of tantalum, a tantalum and palladium-ruthenium alloy, is studied. Membranes permeable only to hydrogen and applicable to the separation of high-purity hydrogen from hot industrial gases and in membrane reactors of selective hydrogenation are obtained.
