History of the creation and activities of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), established in 1945, is the leading agency for rural development and agricultural production within the UN system. The authors of the article analyse the history of the organization, the organizational and legal structure of the FAO and modern areas of its work. The article highlights the scope of its activities, which is necessary for an adequate presentation of its importance in ensuring food security, which is one of the central elements of the international security system.
