Outpatient management of children with bronchopulmonary dysplasia: What is important to know for a neonatologist and a pediatrician?

This article contains the most up-to-date information about bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), which is the most common chronic lung disease in infants and a serious complication of prematurity and respiratory therapy in the neonatal period. This summary will be particularly valuable for pediatricians. We provided the information about epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, pathomorphology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, diagnostic algorithm, classification and diagnostic criteria for BPD. We also covered the principles of outpatient management, including approaches to oxygen therapy, diet therapy, immunoprophylaxis of respiratory syncytial viral infection, personalized drug therapy for BPD and its complications, in particular pulmonary hypertension. We listed possible BPD complications (such as acute bronchiolitis, obliterating bronchiolitis, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and their prevention. © 2021, Dynasty Publishing House.
