Hydraulic Structures Considered as a Basis for Improving the Quality of Life on the Example of the Moscow Region

A history of the hydraulic structures used to supply water to Muscovites for centuries is presented. The concept of “quality of life” is analyzed to include the main indicators characterizing the degree to which the basic vital needs of people are satisfied. All of these indicators are demonstrated to include a water component. The evolution of social standards is traced on the example of sanitary and hygienic living conditions of the population in the context of the historical development of the city of Moscow and its environs. © 2021, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.
