Reconstruction of central eastern desert (Egypt) tectonic framework by remote sensing

The territory under consideration is located within a large platform structure known as the Arabian-Nubian Shield. The analysis of previous works and the results of the interpretation of satellite images (Land Sat) made it possible to reveal two successive tectonic epochs expressed by two fault systems. The older is represented by ring and radial faults. The younger system is represented by NW strike faults and perpendicular to them. The last system of tectonic disturbances determined the present complex block structure of the territory. These two fault systems formed in three structural-tectonic cycles, a) Proterozoic metamorphic rocks of Meatiq dome, b) Upper Proterozoic-Lower Paleozoic represented by metavolcanics group, and c) Paleozoic represented by the Hammamat group sediments and Dokhan-Attala volcanics. © 2021, Univelt Inc.
