VITRIFICATION IN FRAGARIA ANANASSA PLANTS PROPAGATED IN VITRO

Using In vitro cultivation a number of morphological disorders often occur, the most common of which is vitrification. This condition is characterized by changes in the structure of the organs of plants, disorders in physiological processes occurring in leafs. Currently, the signs of vitrification in the culture in vitro are described in more than 200 plant species. It may limit the use of plants in vitro, reduce the efficiency of clonal micropropagation. Strawberries are one of the most common berry crops in Russia. However, availability of high-quality planting stock is a problem. It demands modern technologies that could ensure maximum plant survival and productivity. In vitro technology offers advantages over conventional methods of propagation for a rapid and large scale multiplication of virus free plants.
