At the Root of the Russian Arabic Studies: Academician Ignaty Yulianovich Krachkovsky

Ignatiy Yulianovich Krachkovsky (1883-1951) was an outstanding expert in the field in Oriental, Arabic and Islamic studies, one of the founders of the Russian school of Arab studies. His tremendous academic heritage is of an exceptional value both for philological and historical sciences. More than 500 printed works, dozens of unpublished manuscripts, scientific papers, lectures, scetches and other materials on the Arab Jahiliya poetry, medieval and neo-Arab literature, Arab language and its dialects, history of Arab culture, history of Islam, history of Russian and foreign Arab studies written by I. Yu. Krachkovsky reveal the multi-faceted talent of this researcher, broadness of his scientific interests, his brilliant erudition and unique talent.
