La leyenda de Yuruparý: su lugar entre las cosmogonías latinoamericanas “the legend of Yurupary” and its place in Latin American mythology

This article explores «The Legend of Yurupary» from descriptive and comparative standpoint, giving it a general analysis and investigating its common features with others legends of Latin- America and with universal mythology on the whole. The emphasis is placed on the points which are common for various mythologies such as water being a fundamental element of world`s creation and destruction, the Immaculate Conception of the heroes, departure of the protagonist, etc. On the basis of the investigation of different mythologies the author concludes that «The Legend of Yurupary » has a multitude common features with other cosmogonies, retaining, nevertheless, some points that distinguish the legend as a national work of art that justifies its future translation into other languages
