Diagnosis and treatment of functional constipation in pregnant women

The article discusses criteria of diagnosing functional constipation (Rome III) and offers recommendations on management of constipation during pregnancy. The results of a survey among 1066 medical doctors obtained in a pharmacoepidemiological study «Epidemiology of using medications in pregnant women», have shown that 75% of physicians in their practice give preference to lactulose medications, but almost half faces flatulence in administering pharmacotherapy, in this connection the use of lactulose in combination with simethicone seems adequate.
