Determination of spectral-frequency characteristics and comparative experiments to evaluate the efficiency of singlet oxygen generation in model biochemical environments of a new nanosecond laser medical device

The use of laser technologies in medicine has a significant advantage and high prospects due to the unique properties of the laser light. The photochemical effect on tissues with activation of singlet oxygen is of great importance in medical application. Ultrashort pulse radiation modes contribute to deeper penetration of photons into the tissues due to the high peak power of radiation in the pulse minimal tissues heating. Developing and designing new laser devices with unique radiation parameters is a promising direction in the development of laser medical equipment and minimally invasive laser technologies. The aim of the study was to test the spectral-frequency technical characteristics of the new laser device for medical use and to conduct photochemical laboratory experiments to determine the possibility of generating singlet oxygen in model biochemical environments – acetone, ethanol solutions and aqueous micellar solution with sodium dodecyl sulfate. As an optical trap for singlet oxygen a solution of 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran was used, whose fading rate was used to determine the efficiency of laser radiation in generation of singlet oxygen. Testing the spectral-frequency characteristics of the new laser device made it possible to determine the stability to maintain the given wavelength of 1265±2 nm at long-term operation for 1 h. Photochemical experiments on model biochemical environments have demonstrated greater efficiency of non-pigmented laser generation of singlet oxygen using the nanosecond pulsed mode by an average of 35% compared to the continuous mode of radiation. The data obtained allow us to proceed to further experiments to determine the effectiveness of the new laser device in its influence on biochemical processes in tissues using clinical studies. © IAEME Publication.
