Interaction of Cobalt(II) Chloride with 1-(3,3-Dimethyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1-yl)-1-(quinolin-2-yl)-methane (L1): The Crystal Structure of the Complex [CoCl2(L1*=L1*)CoCl2] · H2O

The [CoCl2(L1*=L1*)CoCl2] · H2O complex (I) was synthesized by a reaction of CoCl2 with 1-(3,3-dimethyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1-yl)-1-(quinolin-2-yl)methane (L1) and characterized using electronic absorption and IR spectroscopies and X-ray crystallography. The structure of this compound contains a binuclear complex molecule (on axis 2) and a condensed tetradentate bridging L1*=L1* ligand with a tetrasubstituted ethylene group. The coordination polyhedron of the Co atom is a distorted tetrahedron (Co-N, 2.059 and 2.075 Å; Co-Cl, 2.222 and 2.230 Å).
