DEVELOPMENT OF AUTHORIAL STANCE IN L2 ACADEMIC WRITING

The paper addresses the issue of authorial stance development in L2 academic writing. One of the major challenges for ESP teachers is promoting academic communication proficiency among undergraduate and postgraduate students. Integration of young Russian scholars into international academic community presents a few challenges, efficient teaching of academic writing is one of those. Means of expression of author's views and beliefs have been a subject of a number of studies. However, this particular paper sheds new light on developmental perspective on authorial presence in L2 writing of Russian and international ESP students. Several corpora have been created for this research. Quantitative and qualitative results of the study provide information for the writing classes and highlights the issues that have been omitted by textbooks so far.
