Assessment of Landscape Design and Species Diversity of Woody and Herbaceous Plants in Household Plots of the Murmansk Region

The results of a survey of 27 household plots located in the Kirovsky and Apatity districts of the Murmansk region are presented. According to the functional purpose, there are 3 types of dachas: only with landscape design (10%); mixed type, where decorative decoration and cultivation of agricultural products are combined (60%); and plots only for agricultural use (30%). Landscaping is represented by a variety of techniques: floral arrangements using stone, vertical, and container landscaping. The species diversity of plants includes 9 species of trees, 39 species of shrubs, 103 species of perennial, and 10 species of annual herbaceous flowering plants. 2 new species of arboreal (Microbiota decussata and Myricaria alopecuroides) and 27 species of ornamental perennials not included in the landscaping range were used for landscaping suburban areas. Expanding the range of landscaping in urban landscape design will allow for more successful use of the aesthetic potential of plants, increase the environmental sustainability of the urban environment, and improve the comfort of life for northerners. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
